When changing your vinyl flooring in the kitchen, we often consider installing a tile. It is true that PVC flooring offers its own advantages - variety of styles, low cost and easy installation - tile, traditional material, retains the advantages of authenticity and aesthetic sustainability, but you may prefer using tiles.

The feasibility of replacing PVC flooring

Before deciding to replace PVC floor in your kitchen with a tiled floor , it is imperative to study the characteristics of the floor. If the kitchen floor consists of a concrete slab, that is often the case in recent housing, no problem, simply remove the PVC coating, clean the floor and possibly cement to smoothing.

Remove the PVC coating

This is a step that can take time, depending on the method that was used to apply the floor and the amount of adhesive used. In older homes, the coatings were plastered all over the surface of the flooring making it harder to remove.

It is therefore necessary to remove the coating itself and, then, residual traces of glue or adhesive on the floor. They can be removed either with a glue remover or with a stripper specific for the job.

The choice of a tile for a kitchen floor

The fun part begins when you start choosing the tiles you want for your kitchen! The floor of a kitchen requires a durable and easy to clean tiles. Ceramic or porcelain enamelled tiles can be strong and resistant to stains, including those caused by acids. The range of patterns and colours is extensive and fully meets contemporary decors.

The tile size is also very variable: there are now large slabs or very tiny tiles, allowing you to pick the tile best suited for your personal preferences. Furthermore there are other tile options that include sandstone, terracotta tiles, or marble tiles. But some of the natural stone tiles are porous and may need special treatment to avoid being stained. Tiles come in all shades and making them very popular if you are considering renovation of your kitchen.
